Learning objectives

The student

  • is aware of the existence of different cultures and the effect these cultures have on the national ways of thinking in different parts of the world
  • understands how this might affect the carrying out of business in intercultural business relations.


The course is comprised of the following topics: cultural identity and country, human development and the development of culture, roots of Western Civilization, modern cultures of the Middle East, Orthodox world, Latin Europe, Northern Europe and Britain and Ireland, modern cultures of Sub-Saharan Africa, the Indian subcontinent, East Asia, the Americas.


01ENG Englannin kieli ja viestintä (Business English Basics) 3 ECTS. Only for second- or third-year students.

Assessment and evaluation

Compulsory class attendance, course work, examination.

Evaluation: 1-5.
