STUDY GUIDE 2014-2015

At the beginning of their studies, each student will complete a personalized study plan consisting of 60 ECTS of Masters level studies and 30 ECTS of their Final Thesis work. The personalized study plan for the sixty 60 ECTS is built from 35 ECTS of Advance Professional Studies  in International Business Development, 15 ECTS of Competence Management and Development, 10 ECTS of Research and Development. The student may take an additional ten ECTS beyond the required 60 ECTS of elective credits to further customize their study plan. The student’s Final Thesis is designed to integrate the production of the individual course and provide a platform for career development.

01LEAD12 LEADERSHIP, MANAGEMENT, AND STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT, 5 ECTS, Required

Objectives

is able to discuss  leadership, management and strategic personal development
is able to describe leadership and discuss business models with respect to change management and development.
is able to discuss people management and the interaction between leadership and management.
is able to create personal development strategies. After the course the student’s generic competencies should be developmental, organizational and international competencies and the specific competencies should be leadership vs. management awareness, and professional managerial competencies.

Contents

Critical analysis, writing and presentations skills will be assessed with respect to the business context through oral presentations, discussions and several writing assignments.

MASTER’S THESIS, 30 ECTS

Objectives

Choosing the relevant research method for the problem space, research design for both desk and field research, using analytical tools, report writing and oral defense.

Research seminars: Topic analysis seminar (during the first semester), research plan seminar (during the second semester), and publication seminar (during the third semester). Master’s Thesis report and maturity test.

Students can choose elective studies either from the master-level studies offered by the Business Faculty or other Faculties at Lahti University of Applied Sciences. Elective studies can also be chosen from Professional Development Studies.

Students can also find elective studies at other Universities of Applied Sciences or from Master-level programmes offered by universities in Finland or universities abroad. Before starting the elective studies students need to get approval from the principal lecturer, then the studies will be accepted to one's personal study plan. The theme of elective studies needs to be connected to business expertise and/or to the topic of one's thesis work.
